Persistence pays off! After a short-stint in a pop group, Shaylen moved to LA and taught herself to how to write and produce songs while working at a bar. Those skills soon caught the attention of music execs and it didn’t take too long for the Dallas, Texas native to land a deal with The Heavy Group/Republic Records. Her debut single, “El Dorado,” arrives today (September 27) and it’s a hugely confident pop anthem about knowing your worth. “Sometimes I need a reminder that I’m dope,” she explains. “This song is about being gold, feeling like gold.”
There’s another layer to the song, however. “Also, it’s about a man in search of the city of gold,” Shaylen continues. But there’s a twist. “I am the gold.” As well as providing a much-needed confidence boost, “El Dorado” is also something of an earworm. There are hooks aplenty and that chorus, like the newcomer’s star presence, is undeniable. It’s an interesting time for emerging pop acts, but this song has enough of an edge to set it — and Shaylen — apart. We’re excited to premiere “El Dorado” below.
